David is 32, single and obese. He is physically repulsed with himself, but he can’t stop eating and doesn’t exercise. He has low self-confidence and it means he can’t approach women. He weighs around 400 pounds and is only 5’10”. How can David get over his addiction to food and find a happy life?
Food is delicious and makes you happy. I understand that. I love food, too, and I eat a lot, but I exercise more than anybody I know. You need to change your relationship with food, drastically. You need to lose about 160 to 200 pounds or you’re going to die young. You’re going to get diabetes and high blood pressure and you will die.
David, you love the taste of food. Food is your habit and it makes you happy, so you’ve got to do other things that make you happy. Relationships with other people will make you happy; girl friends or guy friends both. You’ve also got to find something that you like more than food. Video games are not a hobby. Do you have any hobbies with other people? Buffets do not count.
I’ve got to be honest with you: you’ve got to somehow get something that you like that’s better than food. You’re a funny guy; have you tried stand-up comedy? Find hobbies and friends and that’ll help you lose the weight and meet women. If you don’t lose the weight, I don’t think anyone is going to marry you and you’re not going to be happy.
To exercise, start by buying a pedometer at a local health store. You need to walk 10,000 steps a day. It’ll be easier than you think because you probably already walk 5,000 steps a day.
Now, for diet: no breads, pizza, pasta, cookies, and cake. No added salt or sugar. Food is not your friend. You’ve got to stop liking food. One more tip: to decrease your appetite, drink water with lemon. Not lemonade. Just plain water with real lemon.
