Slouching, whether in a chair or standing, means that the muscles supporting your spine are either relaxed or weak. You can start by simply being aware that you are slouching and consciously sit up or stand more erect. This is gonna be easier if you also strengthen the muscles that support your spine—meaning your core, upper and lower back muscles, and your abs. The key exercises for these areas are planks (regular and side) for your core; dead lifts/dead rows with weights (for your back); and regular or oblique crunches for your abs. Joining a strength-training class such as Body Pump® or CX Work® could kick-start your efforts. Not only are you likely to stop slouching, you’ll be improving your overall fitness and appearance!
