Does a man ejaculate more semen if he hasn’t had sex in a long time?

Let’s talk about quantity, not quality, for a moment. Does a man ejaculate more semen if he hasn’t had sex in a long time?

Yes, up to a point. The volume of a normal ejaculation is between 2 and 5 milliliters-5 milliliters being roughly equal to a teaspoon. If a guy does not ejaculate for several days, the volume will increase slightly-perhaps by a couple of milliliters. That’s why guys who are giving a semen sample for medical reasons are asked not to ejaculate for two or three days.

Guys report that orgasms feel better if they abstain for a couple of days, and one reason is probably the fell of ejaculating a bigger “load.” It may take more contractions of the various muscles involved in ejaculation to transport a larger-than-normal volume of semen, and it’s the contractions that are a large part of the pleasure of orgasm.

But a man’s semen capacity has definite limits. Once the seminal vesicles and prostate gland are “full,” production of the various fluids drops off and excess fluid is simply reabsorbed. So unless you’re a Taoist who is practicing extreme ejaculatory control, there’s no need to abstain from ejaculations for more than a couple of days or so.
