‘Why am I only attracted to 16- and 17-year-old girls?’

David, 21, has gotten himself into a bit of a sticky situation with his girlfriend. He really hit it off with his new girl and really likes her, but she’s only 17. He frequently finds himself attracted to underage girls. How can he develop relationships with women who won’t land him in jail?

My advice:

David, are you always attracted to underage women? You say it’s happened before. You accidentally hit on a girl who was 16 at a party. Are you insecure about dating people your own age? It’s not like 21 isn’t young.

You’re definitely going to get into trouble. A 16- or 17-year-old girl isn’t mature enough to date you. She’s not emotionally ready and her hormones are raging. You could also go to jail. Hang up quick and go to the police department. Are you having sex with them?

David: No.

Harry: Let me ask you, where do you meet these girls?

David: Parties and conventions.

Harry: What parties?

David: Parties that my friends throw.

Harry: Why are you friends inviting 16-year-old girls? Those are not your friends. You cannot go to those parties. What kind of crap is that? You need new friends. What kinds of conventions?

David: Anime, comic book, and video game conventions.

There’s a whole new problem with that. Are you immature? What 21-year-old goes to comic book conventions where there are 16-year-olds?

You’re immature, that’s why you’re having trouble dating women you’re own age. That’s the best answer I have for you. It could be a lot worse, you know.

I’m telling you, you better start making new friends and stop going to those conventions. You need to practice avoidance. You’ve got to cold-turkey it out.

You need to be in a meaningful relationship with someone your own age. You’re going for pure physical attraction, not an emotional connection. When you learn to deal with your emotions, you’re going to lead a great life. When you learn to connect with a woman your own age, you’ll lead a great life. You’re going to teenagers because you’re not mature.
